SAP Test Suite 7.2 – Change Impact Analysis and Test Scope Optimization with BPCA and SEA
Overview
Efficient testing has been a key tenet when upgrading SAP systems. The cost / effort estimation and unnecessary regression testing are two main challenges that SAP users face when performing an upgrade. Both involve significant business involvement and decisions in terms of cost and the impact it has to business processes whilst performing system upgrades.
SAP has responded with solutions to:
- Reduce regression test scope to an acceptable level
- Organize regression testing and automate major and minor releases
- Provide scope and effort estimates before a physical install
To reduce test scope as well as drive testing efficiency, SAP Solution Manager 7.2 Test Suite includes 2 applications for Change Impact Analysis: Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA) and Scope and Effort Analyzer (SEA). Both applications provide the functionality to analyze the impact of software changes on your SAP business processes and these change impact analysis tools can automatically determine the test scope for each business process that is affected. The BPCA Test Scope Optimization (TSO) functionality, allows you to further optimize and reduce the required test scope and effort significantly, by program-based optimization.
